Sherlock Holmes- A Fashion Tutorial

"I'm a consulting detective. The only one in the world. I invented the job."
So if you don't follow me on Twitter, you probably won't know that I'm obsessed with the BBC television show Sherlock, which is a modern adaption of the classic book series. I decided to kick off my new blog by starting with a Sherlock Holmes themed tutorial.
Starting with underneath, Sherlock wears a light blue/gray button down shirt in most of the pictures I'm looking at. From Forever 21, I found a blue/white button down shirt for $15.90. Linked here. Any blue-white somewhat fitted button down will work. You can play with the collar once we get to the jacket.

Next, for the pants, I wanted something dark and denim, so it's comfortable for wherever. If you want dress pants, I'd suggest just plain, black & fitted. Also from Forever 21, for $19.80, are zippered black skinny jeans. Linked here. I like the edge it adds to the look, but if the zippered leg openings aren't your thing, go with simple black denim. If you want, you can even wear a black skirt instead of the jeans.
.
Back up to the top, he usually wears a formal jacket underneath his coat. I wanted to go with something that would keep you comfortable. For $19.95 at H&M (linked here), you can get a nice, fitted black blazer for when you want to take your coat off. Obviously, this is completely optional. The jacket might be too much for wherever you're planning on going.

Womens BrashWomen's Kosmic Platform PumpNext are the shoes. I'm thinking just go for a very simple black heel since the outfit already has a lot going on. Since everyone's feet and personality are different, I'll leave the shoes up to you. What I would go for would be something similar to these ($29.99 at Payless, linked here), but I would not choose suede.

The best part- and hardest part- is his coat! I found two versions here and here. The cheaper one is $159.99 and the other is $189.99. Another great place to find Sherlock's legendary coat is eBay! There's a selection here, but feel free to browse through to find one that suits you. I've gotten many people who have told me they bought theirs from cosplaysky, which is the first two.

Finally for fashion, I picked out scarves and gloves. The scarf was surprisingly difficult to find but I found two versions. On Etsy (here) I found a crocheted scarf for about $25. If you're willing to give it a more feminine look, I found a dark blue scarf here at Forever 21 for $8.80. As for the leather gloves, at Overstock.com, I found a pair for about $25- linked here.

There you have it! A Sherlock themed outfit! If you have comments, concerns, questions or suggestions, either comment below or tweet me @FictionalFashion.
